Lucifer, the highest of the angelic host, had previously rebelled in heaven (Isa. 14:12–17; Ezek. 28:12–19) and enticed one-third of the angels to revolt against God (Rev. 12:4). Satan was cast out of heaven to the earth. In Genesis 3, this once-exalted angel slithered onto the stage of human history and continued his solicitation of others to sin, tempting Eve to lure Adam into rebellion against God.
